Acting Experience
1997-Current
Stage
Sam began his acting career onstage at the historic Springer Opera House in Columbus, Georgia, back in 1997 and has appeared in over 20 professional theatrical productions. He also performed in numerous plays at The Human Experience Theatre as well as various churches in Phenix City Alabama and Columbus Georgia.
Film
Sam’s first commercial was background for a Hollis Eye Care spot, that helped him launch other local commercials including: Bill Heard Chevrolet, Tire’s 1st, Peachtree Mall, WTVM Satellite Salesman, WTVM Farmer’s Appreciation, East Alabama Sam, Ben’s Chophouse and Crazy Dave’s Fireworks. Aside from commercial work, Sam has also appeared in films like: Beyond the Mask, Hamlet’s Ghost and The Way Home. He even hosted his own local television show called Light Talk that ran on Cable TV of East Alabama. Other film credits include a series of restaurant server tutorial videos, skits for Light Talk, along with background work for Ozark Netflix show and The Homesman motion picture.
Voice
Sam began voice over work in early 2000, when he was first booked as a leprechaun character for a car stereo shop. In 2008, a local dance studio hired him to voice several sound-a-like impersonations for their big Disney dance recital productions, to which he contributed over fifty voices to those projects. Sam trained under Voice Over Coach Denise Woods, and his Narration Reel was produced by Joe Loesch. He has a WhisperRoom sound booth and professional recording equipment available to meet the needs of potential clients
Impersonations
In 2006, Sam placed in the top 15 of USA Network’s national competition called “Show Us Your Character.” He was able to impersonate several voices in three minutes. Currently, he’s able to do over fifty impersonations like: The Water Boy, The Grinch, Drac, Mickey Mouse, Goofy, Church Lady, SKELETOR, Jack Sparrow, Shrek, Donkey, Christopher Walden, Bill Clinton, Donald Trump, Obama, Yoda, Bane, The Joker, Batman and many more.
Original Characters
Aside from impersonations, Sam is also able to create his own original characters. In 2015, Sam won a global competition to find voice over artists for the popular app Zoobe. This is a cartoon video app, where you can record up to 30 seconds of video with your voice (or voices). This allowed actor Sam to give life to several new characters!
Training
In 2007, Sam trained and competed in a national talent competition called AMTC (Actor’s Models Talent Competition), where he won 1st place for TV commercial and 1st runner up for best male actor. From there he trained at Whole World Improv Theatre, completing both Beginner’s Improv and Advanced Games/Dialects and Accents. In addition to improv acting, Sam has taken numerous workshops in standup comedy, on-camera film classes, voice over and has received voice over coaching from Denise Woods.
